Observing National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week This week is National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (NLPPW). Each year, NLPPW brings together individuals, organizations, industry, and state, Tribal and local governments to reduce childhood exposure to lead through increased awareness and education. Today, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is announcing the availability of NLPPW resources for communities that were developed with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The resources include sample social media, key information about lead and lead poisoning, event ideas and planning suggestions. The NLPPW theme for 2025 is "Healthy Communities Start With Lead-Safe Homes," emphasizing the importance of safe housing to protect children and foster thriving, resilient communities and focusing on three key actions: - Get the Facts – Learn about lead hazards in your environment
- Get Your Child Tested – Ensure early detection through a blood lead test
- Get Your Home Tested – Identify and address potential lead sources
Additionally, EPA is hosting a Lead Awareness Curriculum, Train-the-Trainer webinar on, Tuesday, October 28 from 1-4 p.m. ET. This webinar is for community leaders who want to learn how to use and modify the Lead Awareness Curriculum for their community. Participants will learn simple actions to reduce lead exposure, become familiar with all materials included within the lead awareness curriculum, and learn how to facilitate sessions in their own community. Register for the webinar. For more information about NLPPW, visit our NLPPW webpage in English or in Spanish. |
