Tips for Tabs (and
Earth Day
Other Tricks)

In honor of International Earth Day on April 22 — and in the general spirit of conservation — this month we're going to show you some ways to conserve resources and get the most out of your browsing experience.

We'll teach you how to make Firefox faster by customizing and managing your tabs and we'll give you an add-on to make printing better by helping you not waste paper. We'll also give you some themes to literally turn your browser green — but before we do that, we'll take a little detour through another Firefox Flicks video (there's still time to enter and vote!) and share this month's featured add-ons.

Become a Tab Super User

If you use tabs — whether it's just a few at a time or so many that it makes the vastness of space seem small by comparison — there's a great, simple way to speed up your browser's performance. By tweaking a few settings, Firefox will remember the sites you were on last time, but load each tab one at a time, instead of all at once. Firefox will be faster, you'll be happier and the world will be a better place. OK, so maybe we can't be sure about that last part, but we can dream. Read the whole story to learn how to change your tab preferences.

Print Only What You Need

You're printing something off the Web and your printer spits out an extra page at the end with a page number and a URL on it. Sound familiar? You probably have a scrap paper stack full of pages just like that. And when that doesn't happen, you get ads and other stuff you don't want all over your printouts (when all you wanted was that cookie recipe).

If you add the Print Edit add-on to Firefox, however, you can format, hide or delete anything you want on any page before printing. You might have fewer pages for doodling on, but you'll also conserve paper, ink and — ultimately — money. We think that's a pretty fair trade.

It's Almost "The End" for Firefox Flicks

Our search for the ultimate Firefox video is almost over, but there's still time to get your entry in before the May 1 deadline. Check out the video below to see the fox's smooth moves and get inspired for your flick. Or visit the site to vote for your favorites. We'll be sad when it's all over, but of course, then comes our favorite part: choosing the winners (stay tuned!).
