EPA recently published a new Asthma & Children’s Health StoryMap to provide parents and guardians with the resources necessary to keep their families healthy. Asthma is a serious, sometimes life-threatening, chronic respiratory disease that affects the quality of life for nearly 26 million Americans, including more than 4.5 million children. Asthma can also have long term impacts on childhood development by limiting a child's ability to exercise, play outdoors, and participate in sports. The new StoryMap explores the relationship between environmental triggers that can cause asthma symptoms or attacks and make asthma worse and the impacts of these triggers on children’s health outcomes (such as emergency department visits, hospitalizations, and the number of missed school days). View the Asthma & Children's Health StoryMap America's Children and the Environment (ACE) EPA’s America's Children and the Environment (ACE) brings together information from a variety of curated sources to provide national trends and highlight the disproportionate impacts of environmental factors on children’s health. ACE is the EPA’s only dedicated set of children’s environmental health indicators, quantifying progress toward a healthy future for the nation’s children. ACE provides information on how environmental factors, such as air quality, affect health outcomes like asthma rates and other conditions.
