View as a webpage / Share EPA Celebrates Children’s Health Month and Advances Environmental Actions for Children’s Health This October, EPA recognizes Children’s Health Month by reaffirming its commitment to protecting children from environmental risks in the places they live, learn, and play. Children may be at greater risk to environmental pollutants and other environmental hazards than adults due to differences in behavior and biology. Early exposures can have lasting health effects.  The 2026 theme, Raising the Bar for Children’s Environmental Health, highlights three priorities: Raise Awareness: Know the environmental risks that can affect children’s health. Act Early: Reduce hazards in the places children live, learn, and play. Protect and Prevent: Support healthy environments for every child, every day. EPA encourages families, schools, and communities to learn more about children’s environmental health and find resources that help reduce exposures, support prevention, and promote healthier communities for children across the country. The month also includes National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, providing an important opportunity to raise awareness and take action on lead and other health hazards. Participate in Children’s Health Month! Looking to organize community outreach for Children’s Health Month? Use the Children's Health Outreach Toolkit as a starting point to tailor evergreen messages to share across partners' channels during October for Children’s Health Month, adapting content with local data, programming, languages, and branding. This messaging can be used in the development of a variety of materials, including social media posts, website copy and blogs, newsletters and email campaigns, talking points and speeches, presentations, fact sheets, flyers and posters, and take-home materials. You can also find ready-to-use resources for Children’s Health Month, including social media graphics, activities for kids, and resources to educate different audiences about children’s environmental health, including parents and caregivers, school administrators and teachers, and healthcare professionals.
